Bad news from Illinois--please spread the word--The state General Assembly passed HB3201, an amendment to the "Sexual assault survivors emergency treatment act", which will mandate that all hospitals providing
treatment to female victims of sexual assualt GIVE oral contraceptive pills unless medically contrindicated -- probably only an existing pregnancy could count here. This is clearly intended as an attack on the
existing conscience protections in Illinois law.
Even worse, the bill was reported out of the Senate Rules committee for a hearing in the Public Health Committee (Sen David Syverson, Chair) this coming Tuesday morning. Illinois, which has had such wise
conscience protections is now becoming the poster child for "why we need federal conscience protections."
